I realized I never posted the final from Sam Nielson's class last semester. Ta-dum.

Nifty hint: Paisley makes a pretty sweet water texture.
Sam's class, btw, was serious awesomeness. I learned So Much. I loved how analytical he was about character design and lighting. If any of you BYU-ites will be around fall semester, snag his class. It's a super gem.
Um, I think YOU are pretty much the awesomest ever. I love the Haunted Mansion-esque idea. This is fabulous. Your artwork is so amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. Lots of fun. Hope the hat is waterproof.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture! This is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture Heather! The top hat looks vaguely familiar though...
ReplyDeleteluvs it. Also love the haunted mansion effect where I could only see the top till I scrolled down to see the rest.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I so wish I could take a digital art class taught by a real digital artist
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks great.
ReplyDeleteI think you do a fairly good job of communicating your original intent. She's kinda floating away, off the page, and the expression is sinister, meaning she's already dealt some nasty business.
Masterpiece.
ReplyDeletelovely, your right the paisley works really well for the water, never would have thought of that
ReplyDeletewheeewww!!!! this is killer good. love the break in the gate, poor willie wonka, (hehehehe) and the water texture was a brilliant idea. :))
ReplyDeleteHey I'm a BYUite who'll be there this fall. What class is it? (course name/number)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think a possible reason for the effect not going quite right is the sunshine on the water right around the submerged top hat. Light usually isn't as creepy as dark, and with all the lush darkness up at the top of the picture, fading down to the light paisley river (which is also a neat trick) ... the bubbles and tie wind up comical instead of creepy.
But that's just my thoughts.
@Simon - Yes, you may be right on that. When I first started the picture I had the option of taking the lighting dark or going with a more whimsical look, and I chose whimsical. Looking back now maybe I should have tried it the other way.
ReplyDelete@Brent - I think it's 496R in animation. Not for sure, but it's one of the animation 4 - R classes.
