Confession: I'm a wimp. A big wimp. I can't watch movies where the bad guys slither/crawl/have more than four legs. And then there are movies that play with your mind. Those are the worst.

Me after watching "The Prestige"
Last weekend my sister sat me down and made me watch an episode of DR. WHO and I swear I have never been so freaked out in my life.*
*Um...season 3 episode 10, in case you're interested.
It was about these weeping stone angels (the sort you'd find in graveyards)--but they weren't actually angels--THEY WERE ALIENS! !!! ! !!! They had evolved into creatures with the perfect defense mechanism: if you looked at them, they didn't move. Like mario ghosts. So you think they're stone until you turn away, and then the aliens attack and SUCK YOU INTO THE PAST AND THEY LIVE OFF OF YOUR POTENTIAL YEARS ENERGY!!!
!!!!!!
So when you first see the statue, it looks like this:

The episode ends with shots of famous statues, and Dr. Who's voiceover:
"Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and DON'T BLINK!"
I love that episode!! So well done! It totally freaks me out though. And yet, I still want to get a statue of an angel covering its face for my yard. Your pictures of it are perfect!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! The Statue of Liberty and Abe Lincoln and Easter Island! haha! And the discus thrower!
ReplyDeleteAnd I know exactly what episode. I haven't seen any Dr. Who but that one. My friends thought it was SO FUNNY to watch me.
I am still trying to think of a way to get back at them.
Hey Heather! Wow what an entertaining post! Love the sequence. I could tell you've done a few storyboards in your life. ;o) The gray scale is so perfect and so is your artwork. Very great!!!
ReplyDeleteI will never look at statues the same ever again... /fear
ReplyDeleteI am especially fond of that first image. Reminds me of my couch-cushion forts I would make as a kid.
Heather,
ReplyDeleteYou're the greatest! I loved that episode, but looking at the pictures you created, I think I love it even more! LOL!!
Very entertaining. Oh, and I HATED the prestige. There's something monumentally wrong with that story. Sick and wrong...
Wibbly-wobbly, timey-whimey stuff...
ReplyDeleteWow -- I'm terrified just reading your post!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning -- I'll never watch it!
Wow, that's incredibly creepy. @_@
ReplyDeleteI've never really been fond of such statues, I like angels, but the way some are designed....look kinda creepy at night. But as for "any" statue, I think the Venus De Milo would be pretty creepy....not that she could grab you....pffft.
Love these pictures, and of course the couch hide out is very funny. :D
And on a side note....I am NEVER watching that episode.....ever. Thanks for the warning through your entertaining art.
HA AHA AHA HAHAHA AHAHA!!!!! Oh this gave me a good laugh great story and illos:)
ReplyDeleteI just have to say I LOVE the drawings. I think I'm going to start illustrating some of my blogposts too.
ReplyDeleteI like scary movies though! (The Prestige is a scary movie?)
Fabulous post, you had me laughing because I hate, hate, hate, scary slasher movies,(that's me under the cushions) but I love creepy freaky movies/shows(loved "The Prestige"), now I have to check out the Dr. Who series, never actually watched it, it's now on my list with Dexter and True Blood.
ReplyDeleteWow. Creepy stuff (but fantastically illustrated).
ReplyDeleteWow! Wicked good!
ReplyDeleteWhile we were over here, Nicole and I caught an episode of Doctor Who. I think we're officially addicted fans now.
ReplyDelete[We haven't seen enough yet to be sure, but apparently Nicole likes the series 4 doctor more than this one (series 5)]
I would like to exchange links with your site strudelcookies.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIs this possible?
In all fairness, you are not the first to be terrified by the evilly fiendish genius of Steven Moffat. I am a Doctor Who fan, and that episode gave me NIGHTMARES. If the Weeping Angels seriously freak you out that much, then under NO CIRCUMSTANCES watch from the new season "Flesh and Stone" and "Time of the Angels." You WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN.
ReplyDeleteConsider yourself warned.
Hehehe. So, I'm stalking your blog now. I agree, those angels are incredibly creeptastic. But I just realized that it makes an appearance in your novel and I had to tell you how clever I think that is. And I love that you fictionally threw snowballs at it via a character. This is the best day ever. Thank you for making me laugh so much!
ReplyDeleteSimply Kate
Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has friends that like to do horrible things to me. This was the first Doctor Who episode my friend showed me and I sat there with my hands over my eyes the whole time...a lot like the angels I realize...0_0. Ironically, I've become a huge Doctor Who fan since then, although I have yet to brave the angels episode again...
