It's December

...Babes in Toyland season.

This week is the movie's 50th anniversary!  It was released Dec. 14th, 1961.  I realize I'm the only person who cares about this.  That will not stop me from watching over and over the World of Color Babes in Toyland Backstage Party that some blessed saint has uploaded onto YouTube.  On it you can watch the Forest of No Return trees sing to Walt Disney, see Tommy Sands do a bongo solo, and stare at Barnaby for hours.  I know I do!

...Barnaby then does a little dance that makes me kind of dizzy and, oddly, want to kiss things.  O_______O  You can watch the rest here Yurr yurr, I know I'm going to be the only one who clicks on that link.  I'm posting it anyway.  Gotta be me.

  1. I didn't click the link because we have it on DVD (on the "Your Host, Walt Disney" Walt Disney Treasures set).

We watched "Babes in Toyland" this past Friday at our house (we picked that day because my wife was away at a service project--she HATES that movie, especially the "I Can't Do the Sum" song).

But my 12-year old daughter LOVES the movie (though she could do without Tom's pompadour hair) and seriously, Annette looks so good as a redhead, and I want my wife to wear all her dresses. Is that weird?

    PS--We miss you on Facebook.

  5. Lol -- It should not surprise me that you know and love this film too! For years I've felt like I was the last child to see it, so I'm glad this one has not been forgotten. Your art is perfect. It feels just right.

  6. I love, love, love this movie. Always have.

Although, I'm kind of in agreement with The Andimator's wife. "I can't do the sum" is horrific.

  7. ...I clicked on it. I've never seen Babes in Toyland, but it was really enjoyable watching the guy who plays Barnaby. When he was doing his dance, all I could think of the whole time was how animated he looked! The guy who got picked up from the bed seems really familiar to me though...I feel like I've heard his voice in Alice in Wonderland or something. Watching one of the henchmen 'sew' his fingers together was really cool too!

  8. @Michelle - Isn't Barnaby FABULOUS?? His personality owns every scene. (He was 57 or 58 when they filmed this O___O) You might recognize him--he's the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz!

Also: Ed Wynn, the toymaker, is the Mad Hatter's voice from Alice in Wonderland. he also played Uncle Albert in mary poppins! he is great. (@Aaron - the crew gives him an award in the show...adorable #^_^#)

  10. Clicked on your pic and immediately had the complete-with-verses-and-chorus "This is the Forest of No Return" firmly implanted in my brain. Nicely done :) Love this film.

  11. Wow O_O I hope I can move like that when I'm that age! I haven't seen Wizard of Oz in a long time (I really should watch it again) xD

And no wonder! He has a very distinct voice -- and yes, I remember Uncle Albert now!
