Up where the smoke is all billowed and curled
'Tween pavement and stars is a chimney sweep's world
Where there's hardly no day, and hardly no night
Things half in shadow, and halfways in light
O.O I LOVE the world created in those lines!
For you Utahers, Mary Poppins comes to SLC next year!! AAAAAAH!!!!!! Save your pennies--Bert tapdances on the ceiling!!
this is a very cute picture. the colors are nice.
ReplyDelete"What did I tell ya? There's the whole world at your feet. And who gets to see it? But the birds, the stars, and the chimney sweeps."
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh, I love this picture. This is coming from someone who watched this movie every day as a kid for a while, who ordered her little brothers around saying "Spit spot" and and who has dressed up as Mary Poppins in both childhood and adulthood.
Though I'm a Mary Poppins purist (my mother-in-law gave me the broadway soundtrack. I turned it on and could barely listen. I just can't hear the songs from anyone but Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke), your bit about Bert tapdancing on the ceiling has piqued my interest. Can I come with you?
Oh--I am TOTALLY a Mary Poppins purist, too! The Disney version--I'm reading the books, and it just doesn't feel right to me. (Mary Poppins is kind of a jerk!) I do like some of the songs in the Broadway version, but when it comes down to it, no Mary Poppins is the Mary Poppins as Disney's Mary Poppins is. It makes me cry every time I watch it. Yes come!
ReplyDeleteMan, this brings back the nostalgia. I still love the movie, but this makes me remember how magical it all seemed when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteGreat composition, colors, everything!
When I was little, right when VCR's were invented, my baby brother insisted on watching Mary Poppins at least twice a day. I think I still have the whole script memorized...
ReplyDeleteBut it is still the best musical comedy ever, ever made!
Very nice picture! I love stories about Marry Poppins and also I love the Disney's movie. In Russia we have own version of film about her and plot of it has some differences from book but it is really nice too. And if somewhere you will find it in English - I recommend it to you for watching!
ReplyDeleteAlso I want to say that those characters on the picture reminds to me Jane and Tarzan from Disney's cartoon:-)
That is really cool and beautiful
ReplyDeleteLovelovelove Mary Poppins. I had a thing for Bert when I was nine.
ReplyDeleteYou're the best.
@Ewgene - What is the name of the Russian Mary Poppins film? I would like to see it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful movie, wonderful picture, in fact practically perfect in every way!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't have a clever Poppins joke, but I LOVELOVELOVELOVE your color design and all around composition in this bit, Heather. Holy beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the mood created by the composition and colors. And Mary IS loverly-- so much good stuff going on!
ReplyDeleteLove it--could there be two more appealing actors playing across each other?
ReplyDelete@Heather Dixon
ReplyDeleteRussian Mary Poppins film called "Mary Poppins, good-bye" (Мэри Поппинс, до свидания - on russian).
Where could I buy a print of this?
