Last Tuesday I took a tour through the Salt Lake County Building. It's a pretty cool building.

They definitely hadn't seen anyone take a picture of the elevator wall.
This'll make a great texture.

It was 13 floors up, all stairs. I loved the bronzey, burgundy green colors of the brick and metal.

On the way we toured the roof, too.

We made it! Here's the part of the clock tower interior.

The clocks were on all sides, but boarded. Still, I managed to peek the camera in between the wood and the glass.
Cool!

We stuck around to hear it chime 12:30. Although the bells were right above us and super loud, they were mellow and didn't hurt our ears at all. I could feel their chimes rumble the floor beneath me.
I really loved the staircases and balconies.
Do you have a high-resolution version of that wall texture? Can I please please have a copy? If you don't want to share it with everyone else, just tell me "no" here, but then secretly e-mail it to me. I'll owe you one, secretly, of course.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one who took pictures of the architectural nooks and crannies. Apparently I'm just the only one who isn't an artist. But very cool pictures!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought to go on a tour there, but now I really want to go. I want to feel the floor rumble under my feet, too. Do you think I can convince my hubby that it would be a romantic date?
ReplyDeleteLucky you! All your pictures are so great.
ReplyDelete@Sam - my texture is your texture!
ReplyDelete@Leisha - Yes. Very romantic. You should kiss when the bells chime! or, write your names in the dust on the floor. (I noticed some people had done this.)
The shot down the stairs into the hall is my personal fave. Beautiful pics Heather!
ReplyDeleteI just pre-ordered your book on Amazon!!!
ReplyDeleteI got five copies and it's cheaper than I thought: $11.55
Can'twaitcan'twaitcan'twait! March 29, 2011 seems so far away!
Great scott, Mary! That's a lot of ramen!!!
ReplyDeleteYour texture remark made me laugh! Reminds me of another computer graphics artist I know.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your tour with us! You described it so well I can almost be there myself.
...This is a miracle. I'm not even kidding--for my second assignment in digital painting I wanted to do an environment inside a clock tower and I've been SCOURING the internet for reference with little to no success.
ReplyDeleteSome of these shots are at the EXACT ANGLE I see the picture in my imagination. Sorry for the super-weird gushyness, but could I please please please use these shots for reference?!? (and I'll stop spamming your blog as I read through it, promise)
But of course! Use whatevah you need :)
