I decided to try the design again:

She's, um, doing a fan dance or sumfing
This was going to be an inspirational post on how improvement staves off artist's depression...but now I'm depressed because it's not as good as it should be. O_O
This sort of backfired. Here's the picture anyway!

Shout-out: If you are interested in story & staging techniques, there's no better blog than the Seven Golden Camels, Mark Kennedy's blog. He's a Disney story artist and goes above and beyond the common story & art stuff. Check it out!
I think she's lovely! Tons better than the first one and I thought the first one was amazing too.
ReplyDeleteYou're getting bettah all the time.
I've done this exercise a lot (re-doing an old design/picture), and I've found it's best to temper expectations for the first pass and do a second piece where you push it a bit further. I always look down on my old work so much that I think I ought to be able to dash off something far superior, but it realistically takes a few iterations before I'm happy with the results.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do think this one is already much stronger than the original.
Thanks guys. I think I'll try and give this another go. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're crazy. This is awesome. Really fun movement.
ReplyDeleteI tried drawing this week because I wanted to sketch my characters. I utterly failed. Tried to draw a guy leaning casually against a wall and he ended up looking like he needed to pee! Um, this is my round-about way of saying that I'm in awe of people who can draw, which you certainly can. Thanks for sharing your work on the blog! It's so fun to see. :D
